Hello I’m Emma.
I am a qualified, experienced therapeutic counsellor and a member of the BACP. I offer a safe, compassionate space for you to share your story and explore the challenges you are facing. Life can be difficult, confusing, overwhelming and complicated at times. Whether you are seeking support for a problem that is known to you, or perhaps you are feeling stuck or lost in life but unsure why, I will hold a supportive space and sit with you in your experience to help find a way forwards. I firmly believe that developing a relationship with ourselves and gaining a deeper understanding of who we are is the catalyst for change and growth. My practice is grounded in creating an environment where you feel safe to express yourself freely. I welcome people from all walks of life, I work with intention, empathy and warmth and I am passionate about helping my clients create the lasting changes they hope for.
I look forward to joining you on your journey.
Working Together
Counselling is a collaborative process; we will work together to establish what you would like from counselling and develop a way of working that suits you and your needs. Everyone comes to counselling at different points in their life and I will meet you where you are on your journey. At the heart of my practice is developing a trusting relationship. I believe cultivating a safe space is is the key to exploring the things that have impacted you, what has shaped you and the way you see the world. Sometimes to understand our present experiences it can be helpful to become curious about our past, our patterns of behaviour and the way we relate to those around us. I understand this can feel new, scary or uncomfortable for some people and we will always do this in a way that feels safe for you and take the work in a direction that feels right for you.
It is important to me that you get the most out of the counselling I offer. In our initial session we will discuss your hopes for counselling and possible goals and intentions. We will review our work regularly and I will check in with you about how you are feeling about the work, what is helping and anything you may wish to change.
I know from personal experience how powerful and life changing counselling can be and I am committed to holding a supportive space for you to:
make sense of life experiences and process painful thoughts and feelings
build yourself back up again and gain greater sense of self and self worth
explore any blocks if you are feeling stuck or unsure about what’s next, in some cases you may not know what it is that feels wrong but we can work together to find a way forwards
look at how the past can inform the present, discovering patterns or behaviour that may be holding you back or not serving you
reconnect with parts of yourself you may have lost touch with to help you recognise your values and needs, giving you a sense of direction and purpose
explore changes in identity or loss of certain parts of identity
explore how you relate to others and how this impacts important relationships. Looking at the role you play in relationships can help make sense of things and navigate challenges and conflict
These are just some of the ways counselling might help, but there are many other challenges that you may bring or that may come up in our work together.

Why Counselling?
Counselling can increase our self awareness and give us a greater understanding of who we are. Counselling is an opportunity to explore choices and recognise our potential. Unlocking the ‘why we are the way we are’ can be incredibly empowering. Understanding why we behave the way we do, react a certain way, play a certain role in relationships or find ourselves repeating patterns is the key to knowing ourselves. And knowing ourselves is the path to gaining a greater sense of control, choice and ultimately, freedom. It also enables us to break patterns and make changes to things that aren’t working for us anymore. Counselling can also help make sense of difficult life experiences we inevitably encounter and help us process painful feelings. Talking to an impartial professional is a unique process, one which allows you the freedom to really explore how you feel in a way you perhaps can’t anywhere else. It is a space free from judgement or bias.
Reaching out and asking for help is a big step. Counselling can help with issues that are known to us, such as grief, addiction, the loss of a relationship or loss of a job. In these cases counselling can help make sense of change, support us through life’s shifts and enable us to find a way forwards. Counselling can help us feel less alone in our experiences and can be a very healing and transformative journey.
Sometimes we can’t put our finger on what feels wrong, we can feel flat, lost, stuck or in pain but we don’t know why. This is very common too and exploring this in a safe, non-judgemental space can be very helpful to making discoveries about ourselves and how we feel about the world around us.
Grounded in dialogue, counselling is a powerful process where people can find a path to healing.
